Happy 4th of July to All!!!!!!!!!

Happy 4th of July from the C Family, from Gorgeous Asheville, NC. We took a brief visit to MLK Park in Asheville, NC today and it was shaping up to be a good time. They started off with a bubble gum find in a bowl of whipped cream. The kiddos had to find the gum without the use of hands and pick it up with their mouth and blow a bubble. Sounds easy huh? Well ever tried to blow up bubble gum with a mouth full of whipped cream. Looked to be a real challenge. The kiddos also had a sponge race, with a bucket full of water on one end, there they had to fill the sponge and run to the other end and squeeze the water from the sponge into the jug with a small opening. There was a line to where the water must reach. Needless to say, this was a challenge and given the humid conditions and the run..This too was quite the challenge. Looked like everyone that participated had a blast. Tonight with the big 4th of July celebration is also focused on good ole Mountain Music. The Shindig on the Green starts its 2009 season at MLK Park as well. I remember going to the Shindig with my Dad when I was growing up. It was located at the City/County Plaza nestled between the old Courthouse and the City Hall buildings. It always starts long about sundown and with the sound of fiddles, banjos, guitars, upright bass fiddles and numerous other instruments echoing off the mountains and folks dancing and having a big time...I can remember the inmates which was housed at the old Courthouse, hanging out between the bars enjoying that good Ole mountain music. The man in the picture above was a slim long tall fellow and had a little man that he made dance as he sat on the paddle. Look close. He was a significant figure that I will always remember.
